# Rough cuts

Ponder can put your edit together from footage you've already organized, or straight from your brief.

## Things you can ask for

People have used Ponder for all of these on real projects:

* cutting to a brief attached as a PDF,
* building a story from interviews alone, with no B-roll,
* going back and forth between speakers instead of playing one long answer after another,
* opening on a specific line as the hook,
* following a shot order you've written out,
* taking a whole project from import to rough cut while following several reference documents,
* matching the style of a reference video (see [Matching a style](/docs/using-ponder/reference-videos-and-briefs)).

If you'd like help putting the request together, see [How to write a brief](/docs/using-ponder/write-a-brief).

## What to check

Before you move on, watch the whole cut through. These are the things that most often need fixing:

* black frames or gaps you didn't ask for,
* a word that repeats at a cut,
* dialogue that's cut off mid-thought or sounds rushed,
* the same clip used twice,
* empty placeholder blocks on the timeline,
* voice-over lines playing back to back when they need room to breathe,
* stretches without voice-over that have no B-roll covering them.

If something's off, leave a comment at that moment. See [Comments](/docs/using-ponder/referring-with-at#comments).

Once the cut feels right, you can ask Ponder to [grade it and add titles](/docs/editing-workflow/refining-an-edit#color-sound-titles-and-graphics), [render or share it](/docs/export/share-links-and-rendering), or [send it to your editing app](/docs/export/exporting-to-your-nle).
