# What is Ponder?

Ponder is a video editor you direct by talking to it. You bring your footage, plus any scripts, briefs or reference videos you have, tell it what you're going for, and it cuts the edit for you.

When it's done, you can render the video, send someone a link so they can watch and leave comments, or open the whole edit in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or CapCut and carry on there.

## Where Ponder fits in your workflow

Ponder fits in wherever you need it. Some people let it take the edit all the way: it cuts the story, adds effects, grades the color, and puts in titles, lower thirds and captions, so they finish with a video that's ready to post.

Others use it like an assistant editor, handing off the prep and finishing the edit in their own app. Plenty of people land somewhere in between. Just tell it which parts you want:

> Organize the footage, sync the multicam, build the stringouts and make a rough cut. Then send everything to Premiere.

However you use it, you can keep giving notes and watching what changes until it's right.

## What people make with Ponder

You can describe pretty much any edit and Ponder will have a go. These are the projects people bring to it most often.

| Type of project | What people do with it |
| - | - |
| YouTube long-form | Go from hours of footage to a full video: shape the story, tighten the talking, add B-roll and motion graphics, then pull a short teaser out of it for TikTok, Instagram or Facebook. |
| Short-form | Cut talking heads, vlogs and product videos down to 15, 30 or 60 seconds, with captions and titles placed where they're easy to read. |
| Interviews, testimonials, corporate | Sort takes by speaker and topic, sync the cameras, and build the cut around the best answers. |
| Commercials and brand films | Prep everything and build a first assembly from the brief or script, then shape it together. |
| Documentary and narrative | Get a mountain of footage organized and build stringouts to find the story. |
| Podcasts, keynotes and multicam | Sync every angle and switch between them the way you like. |
| Events and weddings | Cut a highlight film around the music and the moments you care about. |
| Real estate tours | Sort footage by room, then cut a walkthrough that moves through the space in order. |
| Generative | Generate images, video and music you didn't shoot, like a background plate, a missing cutaway or a track in the style you want, and cut them in alongside your footage. |

Tell Ponder where the video is going, and it'll frame it for that app and keep your titles and captions clear of the buttons and text that sit on top.

## Ponder works the way you do

There's no set workflow to follow, so you decide how much Ponder does.

You can ask for a whole edit in one go, or hand it one job at a time, like syncing cameras or adding animated titles. You can also shape how the agent works by setting your Identity, adding skills and connecting other tools in **Settings → Skills & connectors**. Have a play and see what suits you. See [Make Ponder yours](/docs/core-concepts/how-ponder-works#make-ponder-yours).

If you've got more than one thing going on, open another chat, say one for prep and one for the edit. See [Chats and models](/docs/using-ponder/chats-and-models). And when you ask Ponder to remember something, it carries that into your next project too. See [Memory](/docs/core-concepts/how-ponder-works#memory).

## Getting the best out of it

The more Ponder knows, the closer the first cut gets. Tell it how long the video should be, where it's going, how it should feel, and what to keep or leave out.

It's often easier to talk than type, so try the mic in the chat box. And if there's a video whose style you love, paste the link and say what you want to borrow from it. See [Matching a style](/docs/using-ponder/reference-videos-and-briefs).
