Can Claude Edit Videos? How to Edit With Claude or ChatGPT
If you already pay for Claude, you probably use it for scripts, captions, hooks and client emails, and then you switch apps and start cutting by hand.
Claude can’t edit video on its own, because it has no timeline and can’t see your footage. Connected to Ponder, it can. You can run Ponder’s editing agent on your own Claude plan, or start edits in Ponder straight from the Claude app:
| What it means | Good for | |
|---|---|---|
| Use your Claude plan in Ponder | Ponder’s editing agent runs on the Claude plan you already pay for | Getting more editing out of a subscription you already have |
| Edit from the Claude app | Claude Desktop opens your Ponder projects and hands tasks to Ponder’s agent | Starting edits from the same chat where you write the script or read the client’s notes |
You can use one or both.
How do I use my Claude plan inside Ponder?
Connect your Claude account to Ponder, and Ponder’s editing agent runs on your plan, on top of the AI usage that comes with Ponder.
- Install Ponder and sign in. It’s a desktop app.
- Connect your Claude plan. Ponder offers this during setup, or you can ask Ponder to connect it anytime. You finish signing in to Claude in your browser.
- Edit like you normally would. Describe the video you want, and the agent’s work runs on your Claude plan.
Each chat can run on your Claude plan or on Ponder, and each reply tells you which one did the work. If your plan hits its limit or your sign-in expires, Ponder’s own model takes over and the edit keeps going.
How do I edit videos from the Claude app?
Connect Claude Desktop to Ponder. Claude can then find and open your Ponder projects, start new ones, give tasks to Ponder’s editing agent and check on its progress.
- Ask Ponder to connect Claude Desktop. Ponder sets it up for you.
- Open Claude and ask about your projects. “What Ponder projects do I have?” is a quick way to check it’s working.
- Ask for an edit. Claude passes it to Ponder, and Ponder does the cutting on your computer.
Claude can’t watch the video for you, so open Ponder and check the cut before it goes anywhere.
What can I ask Claude to do in Ponder?
Mix what Claude is already good at, like writing and reading notes, with the edit. A few examples:
Write a 30-second script for our new blender, then ask Ponder to cut my kitchen footage to match it.
Here are the client’s notes from their email. Pass the changes to Ponder for the Glow Co. ad, and keep everything else the same.
Find my Ponder project from last week’s retreat and ask Ponder for a 60-second cut for Instagram.
In my blender project, ask Ponder for five versions with different openers.
What is Ponder working on right now? How far along is the rough cut?
Tip: Brief Claude the way you’d brief an editor. Say who the video is for, how long it should be and how it should feel. What Is Vibe Editing? has prompts that work.
Can’t I just connect Claude to DaVinci Resolve or Premiere?
You can. There are connectors (MCPs) that let Claude work inside editing apps like DaVinci Resolve, and they’re handy for jobs you can describe in steps, like renaming clips, sorting bins, making a LUT or running a script on a timeline.
Making and reviewing a cut that way is harder. Claude changes your project through scripts, but it doesn’t watch or hear your footage, so it can’t tell the good take from the false start. Every note turns into a timecode hunt (“at 00:42:13, the second clip, trim the end”). And one wrong script can shuffle a timeline you spent hours on without Claude noticing.
Ponder handles the part those connectors struggle with, which is understanding the footage and reviewing the cut with you.
Reviewing a cut is much easier in Ponder
In review mode, you give notes the way you would to an editor sitting next to you. Play the cut, talk through your comments, scribble on the frame and point with your cursor. Ponder sees your screen while you do it, so it knows which moment and which part of the shot you mean.
“This shot’s too long” (pointing at the clip). “Move this text, it’s covering her face” (circling it). “Start the music here.”
You don’t need timecodes or a written description of the frame. When the cut is ready, you can still finish it in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or CapCut.
Does this work with ChatGPT too?
Yes, both ways work with ChatGPT. You can connect your ChatGPT plan the same way and Ponder’s agent runs on it (a paid plan works better, since the free plan gets weaker models). You can also ask Ponder to connect ChatGPT or Codex, and they can open your projects and hand tasks to Ponder just like Claude Desktop.
Can Claude edit in DaVinci Resolve directly?
It can run tasks in Resolve through a connector, like renaming clips or applying a LUT, but it can’t watch your footage or see what you mean when you give notes. Ponder can, and it sends the finished cut to Resolve when you’re ready.
Can Claude edit videos in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or CapCut?
Not in a way that sees your footage. Make the cut in Ponder with Claude, then send it to Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or CapCut to finish.
Can Claude Code edit videos?
Some people set up Claude Code with video tools to trim clips and add captions through code. That works for simple, repeatable jobs, but you’re working in code and Claude still can’t watch your footage. Ponder gives you a real timeline, knows what’s in your clips, and lets you review the cut by talking and pointing.
What else should I know?
- What happens if I hit my Claude plan’s limit? Ponder’s own model takes over, so your edit keeps going.
- Do I need to know how to edit? No, you can describe the video you want and Ponder makes the cut.
- Can I still finish the edit by hand? Yes, you can send the cut from Ponder to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or CapCut. See what carries over to your editing app.
Is it free to try?
Yes, there’s a Ponder free trial, so you can install Ponder, connect your Claude plan and describe your first edit.
If you love it, you can keep going for free by inviting a friend. Click the invite button in Ponder, and your friend gets a free month of Starter, then you get one too once they make and export their first cut.
