Before you start editing, Ponder can get your footage ready for you. It can sort everything into folders, sync your cameras and audio, and label what’s on the timeline. Ask for it all at once, or one step at a time.

Organizing

Describe the folder structure you want in plain words, and Ponder sorts your Media Pool to match. It can follow a shot list, sort by location, scene or role, move specific clips, merge folders, or keep folders in an exact order. You can always tidy things up yourself, too. Drag footage between folders in the Media Pool, and undo anything you don’t like. If a clip ends up in the wrong place, drag it into the chat and ask Ponder to re-label it. You can search the Media Pool by file name, by tag, or by something someone said.

Sync and multicam

Ponder syncs your cameras and separate audio for you. Each set of synced clips becomes a sync group, which you can play back as multicam, switch angles in, and take into your editing app. See Keyboard shortcuts. Ponder won’t pause to check the groups with you unless you ask it to. If you’d like to look them over first, just say so:
Sync the footage, then stop and let me check the sync groups before you move on.
When you check, look at the clips that didn’t get synced as well as the groups Ponder found. Make sure each group has a main camera, and listen to the audio in each one before you start cutting. If your files don’t have timecode, ask Ponder to sync by audio waveform only.

Labels

Labels let you see what’s happening on the timeline without playing it, so the more specific they are, the better. For interviews, that means who’s talking, what about, and the point they’re making, since a name alone won’t tell you much. For B-roll, it’s the action, the subject, the place, or how you’d use the shot, rather than just “B-roll”. If a clip covers several topics, ask for a few labels inside it. Then scrub through and check they sit on the right moments.
