You can edit the timeline yourself, ask Ponder to do it, or do both at once. Use whichever is quicker for the change you have in mind. For what you can ask Ponder to do, see Refining an edit.

Edit alongside the agent

There’s no need to wait for the agent to finish. You can keep editing on the same timeline while it’s working, and your edits and the agent’s are merged together.

What you can do by hand

You can edit in Ponder much like you would in any editing app. For example, you can:
  • place clips from the Media Pool onto the timeline,
  • move, trim, split and slip clips,
  • resize and reframe clips, one at a time or a few together,
  • cut by deleting words in the transcript, and bring them back if you change your mind,
  • add transitions and effects like freeze frames, reversed clips and crops,
  • shape a speed ramp and watch it play back as you adjust it,
  • stabilize a shaky clip and compare it with the original,
  • change the text of a plain text clip right in the preview (edit motion-template titles in the Inspector),
  • organize your footage into Media Pool folders,
  • undo anything you’ve done.
These are just the basics, and there’s a lot more you can do in the app. If you picked a keyboard preset for your editing app, most of the keys you already know work here too. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Clip and timeline settings

The Inspector is where you change the settings behind your timeline and each clip on it. With nothing selected, you’ll see settings for the whole timeline, like its size, orientation and frame rate. Select a clip, and you’ll see settings for just that clip, like its framing, speed, stabilization, fades, color and audio. A clip’s settings are split into tabs, like Video, Audio, Color and Speed for a video clip. The tabs depend on the kind of clip, and Ponder opens the next clip of the same kind on the tab you used last. If you shot in log, this is also where you add your camera’s color profile. See Log footage and camera profiles. Can’t find a setting? Ask Ponder and it’ll make the change for you.

Playback

You can switch between the proxy, the lighter copy Ponder makes for smooth playback, and your original source files at full resolution. The proxy is best for everyday editing. Switch to the source when you want to check focus, detail or color at full quality. Press ⇧P to toggle between them. Either way, your exports and what you send to your editing app aren’t affected. You can also change the aspect ratio, like 16:9 or 9:16, and loop the timeline while you watch. Changing the aspect ratio here changes the timeline itself, not just the view.
